Hybrid Adult Faith Formation Examples

Bible
Prayer & Spirituality

Using the resources on the Seasons of Adult Faith Formation website, here are several examples
of how to design hybrid adult faith formation programming.

Example 1. The Gospel of Luke - An 8-Session Online Course
(Yale Bible Study)
See Experience #5 - Gospel of Luke in the Bible section.

Picture
The Gospel of Luke is a masterfully woven narrative filled with skillful characterizations and beautiful poetic verse. Contained within its chapters are some of the most theologically significant parables in the Christian community to this day. This gospel is the first of a two-volume work, with the Acts of the Apostles as the second volume. The author offers readers the history of humanity, particularly of Israel, culminating in the life and death of Christ, as told through a deep and richly theological lens. A clear understanding of the issues and stories within the Gospel of Luke and what follows in the Acts of the Apostles is essential to a solid and enriching engagement with Christian history and tradition.

Sessions
  1. The Birth of the Anointed One
  2. Jesus Begins to Heal
  3. Jesus Begins to Teach
  4. Jesus Begins to Form a Community
  5. Jesus Teaches “On the Road”
  6. Lost and Found
  7. In Jerusalem
  8. The Passion & Resurrection

Example 2. Learning to Pray - Book Study & Prayer Experience
(See Experience #3 in Prayer & Spiritual Life section)

Picture
Learning to Pray explains what prayer is, what to expect from praying, how to do it, and how it can transform us when we make it a regular practice in our lives. A trusted guide walking beside us as we navigate our unique spiritual paths, Fr. James Martin lays out the different styles and traditions of prayer throughout Christian history and invites us to experiment and discover which works best to feed our soul and build intimacy with our Creator. Father Martin makes clear there is not one secret formula for praying. But like any relationship, each person can discover the best style for building an intimate relationship with God, regardless of religion or denomination. Prayer, he teaches us, is open and accessible to anyone willing to open their heart.
Format for Small Group Study
  1. Week #1. Prepare by reading by one or two designated chapters.
  2. Week #2. Meet with your group on Zoom to discuss the chapter(s) and have on person lead the type of prayer described in the chapter together so that everyone can experience it together.
  3. Week #3. Practice the type of prayer during the week.
  4. Share your experience of praying with the everyone engaged in the book study using our "Learning to Pray" Facebook Group.
